The following Saturday Liverpool won 4:0 against Derby County at Anfield. Robbie Fowler gave Liverpool a half time lead. Oyvind Leonhardsen doubled Liverpool's advantage in the second half with his first goal for the club. Robbie Fowler then missed a penalty before scoring his second. Steve McManaman got the fourth goal in the last minute. The result left Liverpool in 5th position in the Premier League on 18 points after 11 matches; 7 points behind leaders Manchester United who had played a match more.
