The following Monday Liverpool won 4:3 against fourth placed Newcastle United at Anfield. The match had an 8:00 PM kick-off time. Goals from Steve McManaman, Patrik Berger, and Robbie Fowler gave Liverpool a comfortable lead at half time against the Kenny Dalglish managed visitors. Keith Gillespie pulled one back in the second half. Then, goals from Faustino Asprilla and Warren Barton in the 87th and 88th minute seemed to have completed the Newcastle comeback. Liverpool hit back with a last minute winner from Robbie Fowler. The result left Liverpool in 2nd position in the Premier League on 56 points after 29 matches; 1 point behind leaders Manchester United.
