The following Monday Liverpool won 2:1 against third placed Arsenal at Highbury. The match had an 8:00 PM kick-off time. Stan Collymore put Liverpool in the lead in the second half. Robbie Fowler's penalty in the 65th minute was saved by David Seaman but Jason McAteer scored from the rebound. Ian Wright pulled one back for Arsenal. The result left Liverpool in 2nd position in the Premier League on 60 points after 31 matches; 3 points behind leaders Manchester United.
