The following Sunday Liverpool lost 3:0 to bottom placed Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Blackburn - managerless and without a league win all season - took an early lead with a Chris Sutton penalty. Jason Wilcox scored a second goal before half time. A second goal from Chris Sutton in the second half wrapped up the points for the home side. The result left Liverpool in 4th position in the Premier League on 23 points after 11 matches; 4 points behind leaders Newcastle United who had played a match more.
