Ten days later, on the following Saturday week, Liverpool drew 1:1 after extra time with West Ham United in the League Cup Final at Wembley. Alan Kennedy gave Liverpool the lead in extra time. Ray Stewart equalised with a penalty. The replay was eventually played on Wednesday, the 1st of April, at Villa Park. Paul Goddard gave West Ham an early lead. Kenny Dalglish equalised and an Alan Hansen header put Liverpool in the lead before half time. There were no further goals in the second half. Liverpool had won the League Cup for the first time in their history.
