It has been confirmed by Liverpool supporters who obtained programmes at the time that both versions of the programme were on sale at the match. They are easily distinguishable. The version on gloss pages is also slightly larger than the non-gloss version.

The following Saturday Liverpool won 2:1 against third-placed Manchester City at Anfield. Kevin Keegan gave Liverpool the lead just before half time. In the second half, Brian Kidd equalised for the visitors; Steve Heighway restored Liverpool's lead almost immediately. The result left Liverpool in 2nd position in the First Division on 47 points after 34 matches, the same number of points as leaders Ipswich Town who had played a match more.
