Because of heavy fog, there was a concern that the match would be postponed after spectators had entered the stadium. For the standing areas - where there was no match ticket - tickets were issued to spectators that could be used for the re-arranged match.

The following Saturday Liverpool won 4:0 against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. Kevin Keegan gave Liverpool a half time lead. Further goals in the second half from Jimmy Case, Phil Neal and Steve Heighway gave Liverpool an emphatic victory. The result - Liverpool's first win in 5 league matches - left them in 2nd position in the First Division on 28 points after 21 matches; the same number of points as leaders Queens Park Rangers.
