WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
The UEFA Cup Final was Liverpool's last match of the season and completed the League and UEFA Cup double. The league success was their first in 7 years and the UEFA Cup was their first European trophy in 9 seasons of competing in European competition. Liverpool were less successful in the domestic cups. They lost a 4th round FA Cup replay 2:0 to Manchester City at Maine Road after a 0:0 draw at Anfield; and in the League Cup they were eliminated in a 5th round replay 3:1 by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane after a 1;1 draw at Anfield. The two clubs were to meet again in the UEFA Cup semi final with a different outcome.
