The following Saturday Liverpool won 2:1 against Leeds United at Elland Road. Mick Jones gave Leeds the lead. Larry Lloyd equalised before half-time. Phil Boersma scored the winner in the second half. The result left Liverpool in 1st position in the First Division on 16 points after 11 matches; the same number of points as Arsenal who had played a match more.
