The following Saturday Liverpool lost 2:1 to Leicester City at Filbert Street. Ian St John scored the Liverpool goal in the first half but goals in either half by Mike Stringfellow secured the points for Leicester. The result left Liverpool in 2nd position in the First Division after 11 matches with 15 points, 1 point less than leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
