The following Saturday Liverpool lost 4:0 to Everton at Anfield. Everton were three goals up at half time thanks to Derek Temple, Frederick Pickering, and Colin Harvey. A fourth goal was scored by Johnny Morrissey after the break. The result left Liverpool in 21st place in the First Division - 1 place off the bottom - on 5 points after having lost 5 and drawn 1 of their opening 8 league matches.
