The Champions League Final was Liverpool's last match of the season. They had finished the Premier League in 2nd place on 92 points,1 point behind champions Manchester City. In February, Liverpool won the League Cup 11-10 on penalties after a 0-0 with Chelsea at Wembley. The decisive penalty was scored by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. In April, Liverpool returned to Wembley to play the same opponents in the FA Cup Final. Again, the match ended scoreless after extra time. Again, Liverpool emerged victorious after the penalty shoot-out; this time 6-5, the penalty hero being substitute Kostas Tsimikas.
