On the following Sunday Liverpool lost 1:0 to 5th placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The match had a 4:30 PM kick-off time. Olivier Giroud scored the only goal after half an hour. The result left Liverpool in 3rd place in the Premier League table on 72 points after 37 matches and meant they had to win their last league match at home to Brighton & Hove Albion to be sure of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
