The following Monday Liverpool won 4:1 against Portsmouth at Anfield. The match had a 8:00 PM kick-off time. Three goals in quick succession midway through the first half from Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel, and Alberto Aquilani - his first for the club - gave Liverpool a commanding lead. Torres added a fourth in the second half before Nadir Belhadj scored a consolation goal for the visitors late on. The result left Liverpool in 5th position in the Premier League on 51 points after 30 matches; 15 points behind leaders Manchester United.
