The following Sunday Liverpool won 2:1 against Arsenal at Anfield. The match had a 4:05 PM kick-off time. Xabi Alonso gave Liverpool the lead just before half time. Patrick Vieira equalised for Arsenal in the second half. Neil Mellor - with his first league goal for Liverpool - scored a dramatic winner in the last minute.
