The following Saturday Liverpool won 2:1 against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. Danny Murphy gave Liverpool the lead mid way through the second half. Dean Richards equalised for Spurs with eight minutes remaining. With just five minutes left, Michael Owen won and converted a penalty to give Liverpool the three points. The result left Liverpool in 1st position in the Premier League on 27 points after 11 matches; 4 points ahead of Arsenal.
