The following Monday Liverpool lost 2:1 to league leaders Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium. The match had a 8:00 PM kick-off time. Michael Ricketts gave Bolton a half time lead. Emile Heskey equalised but Dean Holdsworth got Bolton's winner in the last minute.
