The following Sunday Liverpool won 4:2 against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in the 6th round of the FA Cup. The match had a 2:00 PM kick-off time. Tranmere were managed by John Aldridge. Goals from Danny Murphy and Michael Owen gave Liverpool a half time lead. Steve Yates pulled one back at the start of the second half. Steven Gerrard restored Liverpool's two goal advantage before Wayne Allison reduced the arrears again. A late penalty from Robbie Fowler ensured Liverpool's progress into the semi-finals. Liverpool were drawn to play second division Wycombe Wanderers at Villa Park in the semi-final.
